TCE Faculty & Students Earn ORE Awards

Engineering faculty and students were well represented during the Office of Research and Engagement Research Awards ceremony on Monday, March 25. More than two dozen members of the TCE community received acknowledgements for a variety of awards.

The event recognized students, staff, and faculty for research, scholarship, service, and overall excellence. Interim Chancellor Wayne Davis, above, presented awards  for excellence in research, creative activities, community engagement, and safety and compliance. Thomas Zacharia, director of the Oak ridge national laboratory was the guest speaker.

Thompson Lifts While She Climbs

Jalonda N. Thompson, assistant director of TCE’s Office of Diversity Programs, collaborated on a presentation titled “Ambitious Women: Lifting While We Climb” at the 2019 NASPA conference for student affairs administrators in higher education.

For women in higher education, talking about career advancement and ambitions can be taboo. This session offered a safe forum for women attendees to discuss aspirations, skill sets and experiences, and how these things fit within (or outside of) their respective organizations.

Ahmadi Publishes Perovskite Collaboration

Collaborative research by Mahshid Ahmadi, research assistant professor in MSE, was recently published in the journal Energy and Environmental Science.

The published paper, “Deep levels, charge transport and mixed conductivity in organometallic halide perovskites,” is the result of a joint project with a physics research group at Charles University in Prague.

Thakur Competes at Geo-Congress 2019

Mohmad Mohsin Thakur, a doctoral student in geotechnical engineering, competed in the Geo-Poster Challenge of the Geo-Congress 2019, held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, March 24–27. The international congress brings together researchers, practitioners, students, and policy makers from around the world to share their geo-accomplishments and carry on the tradition of using case histories to cultivate engineering judgment.
