Study Abroad Student Report: Stephen Walker Jr.

During my time in Florence, Italy, I had the opportunity to study abroad dealing with Human Factors & Art for three weeks. To start, I had a chance to visit the Dome Cathedral and the baptistry in the heart of Florence. I also visited Leonardo da Vinci’s interactive museum which highlights most of his inventions and paintings. During the trip, the class and I had also gone to the capital in Italy which is in Rome, Italy. In Rome, the class and I visited the famous coliseum and we had the opportunity to see the pope during the papal session. I also had the opportunity to attend business visits to learn about the fashion and prestige of apparel and clothing all over Italy.

The coursework alone was very interesting to me because I was able to visit art museums and research a little bit more about Leonardo da Vinci’s impact on human society. For the coursework, I had to write a report on the artist of my choosing, the artwork, the human factor of the artwork, and the future based on the impact of the artwork. This was intriguing to me because I was able to express the artist’s ideas by analyzing and researching how people evolve from the past to now in Italian society. Outside of my coursework, I had tremendous experiences eating the world-renowned pizza and pasta that Italy provides as a whole. I also had the opportunity to visit many tourist spots that highlight and give a landscape view of the greater cities of Florence and Rome.

Overall, the experiences and lessons that I have learned in Italy will always impact how I can communicate with people through art and expression as a whole. The trip has allowed me to increase my knowledge and understanding of how to learn new cultures and to expand my power of traveling out of the country.
