Study Abroad Student Report: Austin Fisher

In the summer of 2023, I was fortunate to spend one month in London for the Engineering In London program. During this program, we took Circuits and Electro-Mechanical Components (ECE 301) and Thermodynamics (ME 331). After knowing some friends who previously took the program, I knew I had to make time for this. This is undoubtedly one of the best decisions I have made in my college career.

This was my first experience out of the country. It wasn’t difficult to adapt to communication and social norms. However, the fast-paced city life took some getting used to. London is a great choice for studying abroad because living in such a vibrant and cosmopolitan city allowed me to immerse myself in various traditions, art, music, theater, and museums, providing me with a unique learning experience in and outside the classroom.

Having shared living accommodations helped us connect and foster meaningful connections beyond the classroom setting. The program is structured like a regular class week with around 2 planned excursions a week. I was worried about the amount of free time to really embrace London’s mix of cultures. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of time given to explore the hidden gems of London. Even being in London for a month, I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface of what the city has to offer. My study abroad journey leaves me with cherished memories that I will carry with me throughout my life.
