EECS Students Earn Awards at Conference

Three UT students in the Min H. Kao Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) received best presentation awards at the 30th Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition held in Charlotte, North Carolina, March 15-19, 2015.

Awards consisted of a certificate and $100 gift card for their presentations made during the conference, which attracted more than 5,000 attendees and 100 company exhibitors.

  • Zheyu Zhang received an award for his presentation, “Dead-Time Optimization of SiC Devices for Voltage Source Converter.”
  • Yutian Cui received an award for her presentation, “Two Phase Interleaved ISOP Connected High Step Down Ratio Phase Shift Full Bridge DC/DC Converter with GaN FETs.”
  • Bo Liu received an award for his presentation, “Startup Schemes for Modular Multilevel Converters under Different Load Conditions.”

The three PhD students are advised by Leon Tolbert, Fred Wang, and Daniel Costinett. Tolbert is the Min H. Kao Professor and department head in EECS. Wang is the Condra Chair Professor of Excellence in Power Electronics. Costinett is an assistant professor in EECS.
