Michael Berry Named Faculty Fellow for Academic and Student Affairs

Professor Michael Berry now serves as Faculty Fellow in the college’s Office of Academics and Student Affairs (ASA).

Berry is a longtime professor in the Min H. Kao Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering (EECS), and previously directed the Center for Intelligent Systems and Machine Learning. He has earned numerous teaching awards in his time at the Tickle College of Engineering (TCE).

“It is an honor and privilege to work with Associate Dean Ozlem Kilic, Angela McCarter, Shelby Bacon, Dean Matthew Mench, and all TCE faculty and staff involved with the upcoming ABET review and undergraduate curriculum matters,” said Berry. “This opportunity will provide valuable experience and insight into some of the important college administrative functions related to undergraduate student affairs.”

As faculty fellow, he will contribute to the college’s strategic goals, potentially including the oversight of undergraduate curricular matters, such as math preparedness, curriculum proposals, and assessment of programs. He will shadow Kilic on the oversight of collegewide special programs.

“I am excited about the new perspectives and experience Mike will bring to this role as together we support the college and university in great initiatives with this new arrangement,” said Kilic.

Berry will be point person for ABET preparations and planning, leading ABET meetings, preparing the college sections for the ABET self-study reports. He will facilitate submission of ABET reports and prepare college for ABET visits and interactions with evaluators.

He will contribute for undergraduate curriculum matters, lead TCE math readiness, implement routine Engineering Fundamentals program evaluations, represent TCE for undergraduate academic program reviews, and oversee VolCore initiatives in coordination with the college’s advising director.
