Instructors Vote on Top EF Projects for Spring 2019
Each semester the Engineering Fundamentals 152 class includes a semester-long design project. The spring 2019 semester projects were: Adaptive Technology, Interactive STEM App, and Community Service. EF instructors reported that they were very impressed by what was achieved and presented.

Bachmann Receives WIN’s Top Regional Honor
NE senior Amanda Bachmann won the Women in Nuclear Region II Leadership Award at the US Women in Nuclear Region II Conference held in Oak Ridge, April 10–12, topping two finalists in the professional sector.
As president of the UT Women in Nuclear chapter, Bachmann was also instrumental in organizing the event along with her other chapter members.
Bachmann noted that the Oak Ridge chapter of US WIN also helped provide a meaningful and impactful conference.

Woodard Jumps into NREL Summer Internship
MABE student Carl Woodard, a JUMP into STEM finalist, was awarded an internship at the National Renewable Energy Lab for summer 2019.
He presented his EF230 team’s innovative ideas for reducing energy use in buildings as part of the Solar Decathlon Design Challenge event in Golden, Colorado.
Other team members included Darrell Russell and Heath Hurst.

Yolitz is on the Road to Morocco with Critical Language Scholarship
CBE senior Katherine Yolitz, of Chattanooga, is one of four UT students who earned fully funded scholarships to travel abroad this summer to study languages considered crucial to the United States’ future security and stability. Yolitz also minors in Arab studies.
“I’ll be studying Modern Standard Arabic and the local Moroccan dialect at the Arab American Language Institute in Meknes, while also living with a host family,” she said. “I’m very excited and honored to have been selected . . . and be able to take part in an amazing opportunity to continue studying Arabic while being immersed in the language and learning about Moroccan life and culture.”
The Critical Language Scholarship is a US Department of State program that seeks to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering foreign languages that are less commonly taught in US schools but are essential for America’s engagement with the world.
