Alpha Omega Epsilon
Alpha Omega Epsilon is a nationally recognized professional and social sorority composed of women and people of underrepresented genders studying science and engineering. The sorority focuses on developing professional skills, serving the local community, and building lasting relationships with fellow supporters in STEM.
Amateur Radio Club at the University of Tennessee
The Amateur Radio Club experiments in long range, high frequency radio communications, and participates in various annual contests.
American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE)
Our student chapter of AIChE creates a community for Chemical Engineering students to network with real life chemical engineers and learn more about the chemical engineering industry. Additionally, our club creates a safe atmosphere for chemical engineering students to network and connect with their peers.
American Nuclear Society (ANS) and Women in Nuclear (WiN)
ANS – Our chapter of the American Nuclear Society strives to give students a place to build relationships with other students on campus, across the country, and network with professionals while also making contributions to the world of nuclear science.
WiN – The UTK Student Section of Women in Nuclear supports both women and men in the nuclear science industry.
American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE)
ASABE is the professional society for Biosystems Engineers at UTK. We exist to unite and uplift our members throughout their academic journey via social events, community outreach, and professional development.
American Society of Mechanical Engineers
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers seeks to provide fellow engineering students with opportunities to grow professionally, advance their careers, and form a community with a focus on mechanical disciplines.
American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is a professional organization dedicated to advancing the field of civil engineering, fostering innovation, and promoting infrastructure sustainability in the United States and worldwide. It provides resources, networking opportunities, and standards for civil engineering professionals.
Biomedical Engineering Society
The Biomedical Engineering Society provides students with resources and tools they need to succeed academically and in their post-grad path, as well as serve as a place for students to grow and develop as a professional.
Career Advancement, Mentorship, Inspiration, and Opportunities (CAMINO)
CAMINO—short for Career Advancement, Mentorship, Inspiration, and Opportunities—is a program that aims to inspire and support young Hispanic students in pursuing engineering careers. It focuses on mentorship and promoting engineering pathways among youth in East Tennessee.
Chi Epsilon
Chi Epsilon is a civil engineering honors society which aims to recognize and honor civil engineering students and professionals across the United States. The mission of Chi Epsilon is to achieve its vision through its four pillars: scholarship, character, practicality, and sociability.
Cook Grand Challenge Honors Program
The purpose of the Cook Grand Challenge Honors Program, the engineering honors program, is to provide greater intellectual challenges and broader educational experiences for our undergraduate students. These opportunities will prepare our students to become highly competitive engineering graduates and be more successful in addressing the challenges of the twenty-first century.
Department of Applied Engineering
The Applied Engineering department emphasizes hands-on learning and strong industry collaboration. We are dedicated to the success of our students, preparing them for immediate integration into the workforce upon graduation by providing academic programs designed around industry needs.
Department of Biomedical Engineering
Our team of world class faculty provide students with expertise across a broad spectrum of health-related areas, including health imaging, stroke recovery and rehabilitation, medicine delivery systems, treatment of tumors, Alzheimer’s and dementia patient care, and limb movement and use, among others.
Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering leads research for both traditional chemical and energy industries as well as new areas of application and innovation, such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, advanced materials, and sustainable energy.
Our primary mission is to educate future leaders and innovators through the creation of fundamental knowledge and technologies in the chemical and biomolecular sciences and engineering. We prioritize fostering creativity, nurturing and recognizing excellence, and promoting a collegial and cohesive research and educational environment.
Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
EECS is the largest department in the Tickle College of Engineering, with over 62 world-class faculty members dedicated to teaching and helping students build the technical and communication skills needed for successful careers. The department offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in computer science, computer engineering, and electrical engineering, supported by a rigorous and flexible curriculum that aligns with students’ interests and career goals.

Department of Materials Science Engineering
The Department of Materials Science Engineering is on the leading edge of technology through the development of new materials and the improvement of existing materials for applications in all engineering fields. As an interdisciplinary field, MSE is at the forefront of modern technological advances, offering students a stepping stone to solving tomorrow’s grand challenges as they take their next steps toward their future in engineering.
Department of Nuclear Engineering
Nuclear engineers use cutting-edge technology to safely and sustainably address important challenges in energy, healthcare, and national security. The UT Nuclear Engineering department prepares students for exciting careers in the growing nuclear industry, both in Tennessee and around the world.
Dwight Hutchins Expanding Access to Engineering Program
The Dwight Hutchins Dwight Hutchins Expanding Access to Engineering Program supports recruitment, retention, and graduate school preparation of historically underrepresented populations including pre-college, undergraduate, and graduate students.

Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN)
Eta Kappa Nu is the international honor society of IEEE, promoting scholarship, character, and attitude through leadership, technical development, and service programs.
Fibers & Composites Manufacturing Facility (FCFM)
The Fibers and Composites Manufacturing Facility (FCMF) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, focuses on comprehensive research and development to prototyping of advanced fiber reinforced plastics and composites. The core competency of the FCMF is in product and process development, characterization, modeling & simulation, nondestructive evaluation of advanced thermoset and thermoplastic composites.
HackUTK
The mission of HackUTK is to promote student interest in the field of computer and network security through participation in and sponsorship of capture the flag competitions and related activities.
Heath Integrated Business and Engineering Program
The Heath Integrated Business and Engineering program unites students and knowledge in two of UT’s outstanding academic colleges, the Tickle College of Engineering and Haslam College of Business. The program pairs an industry-focused curriculum with immersive, professional, co-curricular experiences to graduate leaders with a comprehensive, systems-thinking approach to breaking down silos and solving challenges. In short, graduates will understand the intersections between business and engineering, bringing depth and value to both fields from day one.
Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE)
The institute of electronic and electrical engineers focuses on learning and job development. We participate in multiple competitions, with out main activity being competing in the yearly South Eastern Conference hardware competition, which is an autonomous robotics tournament.
Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE)
IISE is a professional society for Industrial Engineering students that offers resources for job opportunities, hosts guest speakers, and organizes conferences to connect students, alumni, and professionals in the field. Additionally, it fosters academic and professional growth through social gatherings that encourage bonding and mutual support.
Institute of Nuclear Materials Management – UTK Student Chapter
INMM fosters a global network that facilitates the sharing of best practices and lessons learned, drawing from diverse experiences in nuclear materials management worldwide. Our vibrant organization includes engineers, scientists, technicians, managers, policymakers, analysts, industry partners, educators, and students.
We provide members with in-depth analysis and insights on nuclear materials management through our conferences and workshops, journal and newsletter. Membership in INMM also enhances organizational visibility and credibility within the nuclear materials community.
The UTK INMM student provides pathways to career opportunities, industry mentors and nuclear science engineering and policy research insight.
Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE)
Institute of Transportation Engineers is an international, fast-growing, educational, and scientific association of multimodal professional transportation engineers. ITE members are traffic engineers, transportation planners, and other professionals responsible for meeting society’s needs for safe and efficient surface transportation through planning, designing, implementing, operating, and maintaining surface transportation systems worldwide.
Jessica M. Morris Women in Engineering
The program facilitates the full participation of all undergraduate and graduate engineering students in a welcoming and empowering environment.
Kao Innovation & Collaboration Studio (ICS)
The Integrated Engineering Design Kao Innovation & Collaboration Studio aims to provide resources to students in the form of technology, tools, and knowledge in order to help them materialize their ideas. The Kao ICS is student-led with staff ready to help you create everything from 3D printing parts to programming microcontrollers.
Material Advantage
Material Advantage is a nationwide student program, designed for those with an interest in materials science and engineering. It offers students a range of opportunities, such as introducing them to the worlds of industry and research, providing a platform for professional development, and facilitating the development of a supportive community.
Materials Research Society
Materials Research Society is an organization of materials researchers from academia, industry, and government that promotes communication for the advancement of interdisciplinary materials research to improve the quality of life. The UT Student Chapter of MRS works together with the Materials Science & Engineering department with seminars and networking with representatives from industry as well as developing scientific presentation and community service skills via Outreach to local K-12 schools.
National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
The National Society of Black Engineers is an organization that strives to uphold our national mission through various academic, professional and outreach programs. Our goal is to help recruit, retain, and graduate minority engineering students from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Pre-College Programs
Pre-College Programs are research-focused programs for Tennessee middle and high school students geared to promote students to explore and pursue a variety of STEM disciplines. Participating in PREP encourages students to pursue careers and a lifelong passion for STEM.
Service Learning Outreach with 3D Printers for Engineers (SLOPE)
SLOPE is a volunteer engineering outreach club. We 3D print keychains, attend local STEM nights in the Knoxville area, and hand out the keychains to elementary, middle, and preschool students to get them interested in engineering.
Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers

Founded in 2019, the University of Tennessee’s chapter of the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers seeks to uplift Asian heritage STEM students at our university. Our mission is to create the Asian heritage leaders of tomorrow by balancing promoting their culture, building their professional skills, and giving back to the community.
Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers is a nonprofit organization that promotes hispanic leadership in STEM fields. SHPE’s mission is to change lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support, and development.
Society of Women Engineers (SWE)
An organization dedicated to empower women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering and technology professions as a positive force in improving the quality of life and demonstrate the value of diversity.
Student Space Technology Association
A student led research lab at UT pushing the envelope of collegiate rocketry.
We built and launched an award-winning hybrid rocket, Redshift, and are now designing the first of a series of liquid rockets in a spaceshot development program.
Systers
Systers’ mission is to recruit, retain, and mentor women in the EECS department. Systers organizes and sponsors department-wide research and community-building events, panels on graduate school admissions and funding, and helps members build a support network through smaller events. Systers also offers a mentoring program for women in EECS, and members have attended multiple women in computing conferences.
Tau Beta Pi (Host of Engineers Day)
Tau Beta Pi is the only engineering honor society representing the entire engineering profession. It is the nation’s second-oldest honor society, founded at Lehigh University in 1885 to mark in a fitting manner those who have conferred honor upon their Alma Mater by distinguished scholarship and exemplary character as students in engineering, or by their attainments as alumni in the field of engineering, and to foster a spirit of liberal culture in engineering colleges.
Tennessee Water Resources Research Center
The Tennessee Water Resources Research Center (TNWRRC) is a federally designated state research institute supported in part by the U.S. Geological Survey. TNWRRC’s mission is to coordinate research, education, community outreach activities, and training across Tennessee’s municipalities, government agencies, universities, and private sector professionals.
Theta Tau
Theta Tau is UT’s only co-ed professional engineering fraternity. The purpose of Theta Tau is to develop and maintain a high standard of professional interest among its members, and to unite them in a strong bond of fraternal fellowship.
UT Center for Transportation Research
The Center for Transportation Research was created to foster and facilitate interdisciplinary research, public service, and outreach in the field of transportation at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. (Provides the popular seat belt convincer for Engineers Day.)
UT Space Institute
UTSI is a graduate university in Tullahoma, TN and offers MS & PhD in Aerospace, Mechanical, and Biomedical Engineering.
Water professionals at UT
Water professionals at UT is a student led organization that aims to connect student engineers with professionals and employers in the water and environmental industry. They do this through lunch and learn style meetings in which professional speakers provide a presentation as well as participate in major events and conferences with the water and environmental industries.
