Pro-tip for Prospective Students:
“The main thing, especially coming from a small high school, I would definitely say when you start your major classes, UT feels a lot smaller. I feel like the size of UT intimidates a lot of people but it’s one big community, especially within the Engineering college.”

Favorite thing about the college?
“I’m in the Society for Women Engineers and last year I was the Vice President for Volunteering and Outreach where I led an event called Tomorrow’s Engineers Today. I love community outreach and giving back to kids so I like being in that position and handling the event, that was awesome!
“The second one was getting the Rising UT Woman of the Year award this past spring. I was nominated by my department, ISE and by Heath IBEP. I was just honored to be acknowledged for what I’ve done for the university and the community and I was not expecting to actually win!”

How did you find community at UT?
“Join Organizations. I joined NSBE and SWE and found my place in SWE. I have a lot of friends in SWE who have graduated and are doing amazing things! Freshman year was really challenging, so having people in SWE that we all studied with, and had so much in common with was a great bonding experience. I would definitely say get involved!”
There’s something in the college for everyone. There’s NSBE, SHPE, SWE and so many other things to do and dozens of organizations to get involved with. If you’re not sure what to do as far as a degree, getting involved in those organizations will also help with that. So, find a community and don’t be afraid or intimidated by the size of UT because there’s a place for you here.”
