Pre-College Coordinator Application Checklist

The college is seeking a graduate student to serve as a coordinator for the Pre-College Summer Engineering Program: High School Introduction to Engineering Systems for Rising 12^th Graders (HITES12) and Engineering Volunteers for Rising 10^th Graders (eVOL10). HITES¹² is for rising twelfth grade students who engage with engineering faculty, learn about college life, and be introduced to our Engineering Fundamentals program. eVOL¹⁰ is for rising tenth grade students who participate in ACT Math prep seminars and experiences focused on awareness of engineering careers.

The coordinator is responsible for assisting the program in developing, coordinating, and maintaining an environment which strives to provide a positive, intellectual, emotional, and social living environment for participants. All applicants must submit the application, upload resume, provide 2 reference contacts, and video response. 

Coordinator Requirements

• Must be a current graduate student at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
• Previous work experience or interaction with children or youth.
• Desired Qualifications: Applicants pursuing a degree in a STEM field, higher education, or counseling.

Program Duration Benefits

• Compensation: $20 per hour

• Please submit a video essay answering the following four questions. Your video should be no longer than 5 minutes in total. We recommend that you speak clearly and thoughtfully, ensuring your answers reflect your experience, skills, and motivation for the position.
• Questions to answer:
  • Why are you interested in the Pre-College Coordinator position, and what makes you a good fit for this role?
    Please highlight any relevant experiences and skills that you believe will help you succeed in supporting and coordinating the summer programs.
  • Describe a time when you successfully worked with a group of students or young people.
    How did you foster a positive and inclusive environment? What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them?
  • How would you support students in both their academic and personal growth during the summer program? 
    Share your approach to creating an environment where students feel supported, motivated, and encouraged to grow as both individuals and learners.
  • In the role of Coordinator, you will be working closely with counselors and participants. 
    How would you approach collaboration and communication within a team, and how would you ensure the success of the program overall?

Part 4: Letters of Recommendation

• Please provide the names and email addresses of two (2) individuals who can provide insight into your character, work ethic, and/or experience working with students. Our office will contact your references and provide a form for them to complete. 
• Applicants are encouraged to seek recommendations from individuals outside of the Dwight Hutchins EAEP office. No written letters of recommendation will be accepted.

• You will need to upload a PDF version of your resume to be considered for the coordinator position.
