Program Dates

1st Session Summer: June 7–July 6, 2024
Spend five weeks in London next summer earning six credit hours of UT engineering credit! If program fills to capacity, early applicants will be given priority.

Courses offered:

  • ME 331 Thermodynamics
  • ECE 301 Circuits and Electromechanical Components

Each participant will select two of the three offerings, for a total of six credits.

ME 331, ECE 301 are required for many TCE majors or may count as a technical elective in several UT curricula. COSC 494 is a specially developed elective that traces the development of computing where it really happened! It can be used as a technical elective in most TCE departments with advisor’s permission.

Studying these subjects in London is a unique opportunity offered to UT engineering students. No other location offers more insights into the birth of our technological world. Come see and learn with us about the origin of the industrial revolution, the “second” industrial revolution of electrical machines, and the birth of the computer age. We will visit:

  • Michael Faraday’s Laboratory
  • Kew Bridge Steam Museum
  • Bletchley Park (where the earliest computers were developed)
  • Greenwich Maritime Museum and Royal Observatory (home of the zero meridian)
  • And more!

Classes will be held in the IES Study Center in the historic Bloomsbury District of London, close to the theatre district and walking distance to the British Museum. London, with its rich history and international character, is an ideal place to study abroad.

Students will share double rooms in residence halls in central London and will have access to shared kitchen facilities. Weekly cleaning service and broadband internet are provided.
