TCE Hosts Capstone Design Conference

The University of Tennessee’s Tickle College of Engineering hosted the 2024 Capstone Design Conference June 3-5 on the Knoxville campus.

The conference brought together instructors of capstone design courses in various engineering and other technical disciplines from colleges and universities around the world. More than 200 people from 79 universities were in attendance.

Attendees were able to share and learn about the best practices in capstone design education. The conference included poster presentations, panel discussions, and workshops.

UT faculty members served on many panels, and Eric Zeanah (BS/ISE, ’84) was the luncheon keynote speaker.

Attendees received tours of the university and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Student attendees participated in make-and-take workshops in the Min. H and Yu Fan Kao Innovation and Collaboration Studio on the ground floor of the Zeanah Engineering Complex.

On the final day of the conference, student poster competitions winners were announced. The University of Florida placed first, University of Texas-Dallas was second, and the Rochester Institute of Technology finished third.

This was the eighth Capstone Design Conference, and the first time UT has hosted. The inaugural conference was held in 2007 at the University of Colorado.

“As a continuous Capstone Design Conference Organizing Committee member since 2006, it was my turn to give back to the capstone design community and introduce them all to the outstanding resources at the University of Tennessee,” said Edwards Assistant Dean and Director of Integrated Engineering Design Keith Stanfill. “UT was the logical choice to host this biennial conference: we have a rich tradition of developing our students for professional practice through senior design and outstanding campus facilities. Over the three days of the conference, we were able to share Volunteer traditions and hospitality with more than 200 faculty and students.”
