Deborah Brown SEA Counselor Application

The college is seeking undergraduate students to serve as counselors for the Deborah Brown Summer Engineering Advancement (SEA). Deborah Brown SEA is a 3-week program focused on pre-calculus ready students majoring in engineering an opportunity to advance to calculus beginning in the fall.

Counselors will serve in a leadership role as an academic lead, academic coach, or campus life coach.  Counselors are responsible for assisting the program in developing, coordinating, and maintaining an environment which strives to provide a positive, intellectual, emotional, and social living environment for participants. All applicants must submit the application, upload resume, provide 2 reference contacts, and video response. 

Counselor Requirements

  • Be a rising sophomore, junior, or senior with cumulative GPA of 2.75/4.0 or higher in engineering and have completed Calculus I (MATH 141) and Engineering Fundamentals (EF 151).
  • Attend program training and assigned sessions with participants including weekends.
  • Be on time and courteous to all participants, other counselors, and office personnel.
  • During June, counselors are permitted to enroll in classes but no more than 3 hours.

Program Duration Benefits

  • Compensation: $15 per hour
  • On Campus housing, meals, and parking pass

  • Please provide the names and email addresses of two (2) individuals who can provide insight into your character, work ethic, and/or experience working with students. Our office will contact your references and provide a form for them to complete. 
  • Applicants are encouraged to seek recommendations from individuals outside of the Dwight Hutchins Expanding Access to Engineering Program. No written letters of recommendation will be accepted. 

Part 4: Upload Your Resume

  • You will need to upload a pdf version of your resume to be considered for the counselor position.

Part 5: Provide a Link to Your Introduction Video (YouTube, URL address, etc.)

  • Your introduction video makes it easy for us to quickly get a sense of your personality and motivation to serve as a pre-college counselor. It is meant to show us who you are…so relax, be yourself, and get creative! There is no time limit or format for your introduction video.
  • Prompt: Reflecting back to you first year of college, what advice would you give yourself? Comment on any special qualifications or experiences that you believe will make you a successful counselor.
