Computer Engineering, MS

As someone who is thrilled by evolving technology and the innumerable possibilities of those technologies, you may thrive in our computer engineering MS program. With the constant innovation to move humanity towards the future, adaptable skills you’ll gather along the way, and your interest in electrical engineering and computer science, computer engineering is an excellent discipline to study.

Program overview

When students choose to get their MS in computer engineering, they are welcomed into the largest department in the Tickle College of Engineering. We have annual research expenditures of $21.8 million, paving the way towards the future of technology. Grad students in our computer engineering program participate in active experimentation, analysis, and exploration in the field.

Student can also choose to pursue a dual MS-MBA program with a major in computer engineering.

Computer engineering combines electrical engineering and computer science, providing a discipline for those interested in designing computers, building hardware, or developing systems. This versatile field allows you to focus on a specialty that piques your interest, and our program provides students with the ability to choose an area of focus and get essential experience through several avenues.

Research Areas

As you’re studying for your master’s degree, you’ll get to hone in on an area of interest. Our faculty you could work with are leading experts in several subjects, including:

  • Communication systems and controls
  • Cybersecurity, networked, and embedded systems
  • High-performance and scientistic computing
  • Power systems, power electronics, and renewable energy

Facilities and Resources

As a graduate student, it is imperative that you have opportunities to delve into research and make a difference in the world long before you graduate. With access to incomparable instructional facilities and guidance from award-winning engineers, you’ll build the skills, knowledge, and confidence you need to continue in the field of computer engineering. Some of the state-of-the-art facilities you could work in are:

What can you do with a MS in Computer Engineering after graduation?

A career in computer engineering provides you with broad opportunities after graduation. You could be responsible for development of products, from game consoles to automotive systems. Change the future of humanity by designing robotic prototypes, or protect systems from cyber threats by creating network security.

With a better idea of what you could be doing in your career, you may be wondering where it might take place. Many of our students go on to work for notable companies, like Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), Google, and ExxonMobil.
