Matthew Mench and Chris Pionke Discuss Alumnus Josh Dobbs’ Success with The Athletic

Josh Dobbs

Nearly everyone associated with the University of Tennessee wasn’t surprised by how well Josh Dobbs (2017) performed in crunch time on short notice for the Minnesota Vikings over the last two weeks in the National Football League.

The quarterback’s high-level processing skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks were evident during his time as a student-athlete in the Tickle College of Engineering.

Not only was he one of the top quarterbacks in the SEC, Dobbs was also a successful aerospace engineering major who became a spokesperson for the university.

Alec Lewis of The Athletic captured how Dobbs managed to do it all and do it all well at UT in an article that features interviews with Tickle of College Engineering Dean Matthew Mench, the Wayne T. Davis Dean’s Chair of the college, and retired MABE Associate Professor Chris Pionke.

Dobbs, who was selected as a Torchbearer in 2017, remains strongly connected with UT. The Georgia native is the president of the UT Alumni Board of Directors and helped establish the R. Joshua Dobbs North Atlanta UT Alumni Chapter Scholarship endowment after graduating.
