The first day of the trip was spent on a walking tour of the city. Sites on the tour included Plaza de la Independencia, Convento y Museo San Francisco (Museum and Monastery of San Francisco), Iglesia de la Merced (Church of Mercy), dating from the 1500s.
Experiencing the culture of another country was something that I had never gotten the opportunity to do before and going on this trip has encouraged me to pursue other travels abroad in the future.
But after we landed and started adventuring, everything changed. My anxiety waned as we were taken on city tours, volcano visits, a tour of Lake Nicaragua, and so many other experiences. I had never been to Nicaragua before and the opportunity to investigate and experience the culture of the area was excellent.
Traveling to a foreign country is a fun and interesting experience. From enjoying the native food to interacting with natives of that country, everything is new and requires you to be open-minded about everything. From the start, my fate on this trip was entirely determined by Good Samaritans. I was let on the plane to Nicaragua by one of the kindest airport employees to ever exist and when my luggage was lost, American Airline’s finest delivered it directly to our hotel.
During my travels in Nicaragua, I was surprised by the various means of transportation used to get from place to place and how they contrasted with what I am accustomed to in Knoxville, Tennessee.

As we walked down one of the main city streets David gave us an incredible history of Granada and the country of Nicaragua. During part of our tour, we climbed to the top of a church bell tower to gain a better view of the city and surrounding landscape.
