Sheryl Sanchez was awarded the Best Graduate Presentation Award for Symposium MT02: Machine Learning in Action—Automated and Autonomous Experiments at the 2024 MRS Fall Meeting & Exhibit in Boston, Massachusetts.
Sanchez, a graduate research assistant in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering for Assistant Professor Mahshid Ahmadi, was honored for the presentation of Accelerating Bandgap Discovery in Hybrid Perovskites with Advanced Modeling Techniques.
“I am incredibly honored to receive the Best Graduate Presentation Award at the 2024 MRS Fall Meeting. This recognition is especially meaningful because it highlights the importance of applying machine learning and artificial intelligence to accelerate materials discovery for renewable energy technologies,” Sanchez said. “The award is not just a personal milestone, but a reflection of the mentorship, collaboration, and innovative research environment that have shaped my work.”
The 2024 MRS Fall Meeting & Exhibit took place Dec. 1-6, 2024, at the Hynes Convention Center and Sheraton Boston Hotel. The international scientific gathering for materials research featured interdisciplinary cutting-edge research, innovate technologies, and collaborative networking.
“The Fall Meeting was an inspiring experience that allowed me to engage with leading researchers, exchange ideas, and explore the latest advancements in materials science, automation, and AI-driven research,” Sanchez said. “I especially valued the discussions on bridging the gap between fundamental materials discovery and real-world application, which is a key challenge in translating new materials into scalable technologies. Presenting my research to an audience of experts and receiving their feedback was incredibly valuable, and I left the conference with new perspectives and ideas to further refine my work.”
