Biography
Mariya Zhuravleva earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from the Moscow State University of Fine Chemical Technology, Russia, and her PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Tohoku University, Japan. Her dissertation research focused on bulk crystal growth of rare earth orthoaluminates and scintillation characterization.
Zhuravleva joined the Scintillation Materials Research Center (SMRC) at the College of Engineering, University of Tennessee, as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in 2009, became a Research Assistant Professor in the Materials Science and Engineering Department in 2011, and joined the tenure-track faculty in 2015. She continues to actively collaborate with the SMRC on various projects related to discovery and development of novel scintillators. Zhuravleva teaches undergraduate courses on thermodynamics and materials for energy.
