Mariya Zhuravleva

Associate Professor

Biography

Mariya Zhuravleva earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from the Moscow State University of Fine Chemical Technology, Russia, and her PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Tohoku University, Japan. Her dissertation research included crystal growth of rare earth orthoaluminates using the micro-pulling-down and the Czochralski methods and scintillation characterization. In 2009, Zhuravleva joined the Scintillation Materials Research Center (SMRC) at the College of Engineering, University of Tennessee, as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. She joined the Materials Science and Engineering Department as a Research Assistant Professor in 2011 and as a tenure-track faculty in 2015. She continues to actively collaborate with the SMRC on various projects related to discovery and development of novel scintillators. Zhuravleva teaches undergraduate courses on introduction to materials science and engineering, thermodynamics, and processing of ceramics as well as a graduate course on scintillator materials. She has authored or co-authored 80 peer-reviewed technical papers, 12 U.S. patents, and has contributed to over 120 technical presentations at professional conferences.
