Five-Year BS-MS Program

Through our nontraditional five-year BS/MS program, we offer qualified students a fast-track opportunity to graduate with a master’s degree in materials science and engineering.

The program is designed to allow qualifying students to take up to nine hours of approved graduate courses for their senior undergraduate electives and have them count toward both their BS and MS degrees, thus reducing the amount of time it takes for a student to earn a master’s degree.

How to Apply

Students must have an overall GPA of 3.4 and follow a normal procedure for admission to Graduate School, including taking the GRE and applying with references.

Interested and qualified students must fill out the Admission/Course Approval Form before scheduling an appointment with their advisor. Application deadlines are April 15th or November 15th, depending on when the student wishes to begin taking graduate courses.

Course approval can only be given for courses that have been scheduled. Students must submit a new Admission/Course Approval Form directly before each semester they plan to enroll in graduate coursework. Approval to have credit count toward both the BS and MS degrees will not be given retroactively. Students must obtain approval prior to taking a course.
