Facilities and Research

Facilities &

The college boasts state-of-the-art facilities and laboratories too numerous to name.

From the Institute for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing and Scintillation Materials Research Center to the Ion Bean Materials Laboratory and the NSF- and DoE-backed Engineering Research Center CURENT, we offer a wide breath of facilities to support a multitude of research thrusts. Additionally, the UT Space Institute includes high-speed wind tunnels and flow diagnostics labs for a variety of applications.

In addition, thanks to the college’s decades-long partnership with ORNL, many joint research opportunities are available to both students and faculty at ORNL’s facilities. The Manufacturing Demonstration Facility, which has 3D printed both sports cars and houses; the Spallation Neutron Source, the world’s leading center for the study of materials through neutron scattering; and Summit, one of the world’s fastest and newest supercomputers, are but a few of the facilities we leverage to conduct research together.
