Expeditionary Cold Spray Demonstration

This landmark event is part of UT’s Advanced Materials and Manufacturing for Modernization Project, led by DEVCOM ARL. The demonstration will be conducted by soldiers from the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment (ACR) and Field Maintenance Shop (FMS) 2 of the TN Army National Guard showcasing how soldiers can employ SPEE3D’s deployable cold spray system to produce near factory-grade parts in the field enabling the rapid repair of non-mission capable vehicles.

The event will also feature soldier-trained and piloted Five33 drones, highlighting how soldiers can conduct aerial-resupply in a simulated tactical scenario to deliver critical parts directly to the point of need. These platforms will be powered by next-generation batteries developed within the UT ecosystem, including Eonix technologies advanced under Army XTech and Air Force SBIR programs, as well as new lithium-ion batteries being developed by the UT eVTOL project under the direction of the Versatile Tactical Power and Propulsion (VICTOR) Essential Research Program.

An additional highlight of the demonstration will include a preview of a Virtual Reality training model for expeditionary cold spray, developed in partnership with the Y-12 National Security Complex, designed to accelerate soldier training and operational effectiveness with the system.
