Commencement

The university is excited to hold in-person commencement ceremonies for all our graduates in Thompson-Boling Arena this spring. The ceremony for engineering will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2022.

Below are some specific details for the Spring 2022 Commencement ceremony. The university’s Frequently Asked Questions page has been updated with common questions about all ceremonies as well.

  • Undergraduates from each college participate in separate ceremonies.
    Professional photos will be taken by Big Orange Professional Photography (BOPP) prior to the ceremony. Graduates must be in line 20 minutes prior to the ceremony start time in order to have their picture taken.
  • Students cross an ADA-compliant ramp as their name is called.
  • Doctoral and professional students will be hooded during the graduate hooding ceremony.
  • Students pause on the ramp for a formal photo.
  • There are currently no plans to require tickets for guest entry. Graduates will be contacted if anything changes.
  • If you earned your undergraduate degree in a previous term and are wishing to participate in the spring ceremony, you must contact the Office of the University Registrar to request permission and provide justification. If you are a graduate student, please contact the Graduate School to request permission and provide justification.

Faculty

Faculty can participate in the ceremonies in three ways:

  • Hooder (only for graduate and professional hooding ceremony)
  • Stage party (for undergraduate ceremonies)
  • Attendee
