Undergraduate Cost
UT makes it affordable to earn a degree while preparing you for your career. In fact, nearly half of all UT students graduate without debt, and the university is consistently below the average for student debt!
Tickle College of Engineering Scholarships
Thanks to the generosity of private and corporate donors, the college and its departments annually award more than $1 million in scholarships to qualified undergraduate students. To apply for engineering scholarships, students must be accepted into both UT and the college.
TCE Scholarship information
First-year students must apply by the priority application deadline to be eligible for scholarships from the college. First-year students do not need to complete a college scholarship form.
Current/returning UT students and new transfer students must apply by submitting the appropriate scholarship form. Students do need not to apply for specific scholarships as the Scholarship Committee will match qualified students with available awards.
Scholarships are awarded each academic year in the spring for the upcoming year. The college evaluates the eligibility of a student for a college scholarship based on many factors, including academic qualification (high school GPA and ACT scores), extracurricular activities at high school, leadership roles, awards received in high school, and other factors as may be specified by a scholarship award donor, all on a competitive and holistic basis. For more information, contact the college’s Office of Academic and Student Affairs at 865-974-2454 or visit 456 Zeanah Engineering Complex.

Graduate School Financial Support
The college and other units across campus provide support for graduate students through part-time assistantships as well as merit-based fellowships. Learn more about the types of assistantships and fellowships that are available at UT by clicking on the boxes below. You can also visit the Graduate School for additional information.
Assistantships
The main sources of financial support for graduate students at UT are graduate assistantships provided by academic departments and administrative offices of the university. Assistantships are financial awards to graduate students for part-time work in teaching, administration, or research while pursuing an advanced degree.
Assistantship appointments usually require a ten-to twenty-hour work week with an annual stipend payable in either nine or twelve monthly installments. Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA), Graduate Teaching Associates (GTAssoc), Graduate Assistants (GA), and Graduate Research Assistants (GRA) usually receive a waiver of maintenance fees and tuition. Assistantships also provide student health insurance.
- Information about assistantships can be found through advising centers, admissions offices, and through the graduate recruiter in your department.

University Fees
Beginning fall 2022, graduate students on assistantships will no longer pay mandatory fees (library fee, technology fee, etc.) and differential tuition (charges associated with certain colleges). Such fees will now be covered by the university.
Fellowships
Fellowships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and potential for scholarship. The following awards are offered through the college:
- Herman E. Spivey Graduate Fellowships
- Lori Mayer Re-Entry Women’s Graduate Fellowships
- Wallace & Katie Dean Graduate Fellowships
- Yates Dissertation Fellowships
Potential and current graduate students are also urged to apply for fellowships or grants from national, international, industrial, or foundation sources. These awards pay annual stipends in addition to tuition funding. Find out additional information on assistantships and fellowships.
