Labs and Centers

In addition to partnerships forged with ORNL, CNS/Y-12, the State of Tennessee and City of Knoxville, we also collaborate with a number of on-campus research facilities, allowing our faculty and students to actively participate in cutting-edge research together. Learn more about our on-campus partners:

AI in Complex Systems Lab

The AI in Complex Systems Lab aims to advance the science of artificial intelligence (AI) and address the prominent existing gaps and challenges in AI methods and their translation to practice. Applications for this research are in areas like health care, genomics, advanced manufacturing, intelligent transportation systems, environment, nuclear energy, and cybersecurity, among others.

HITS Lab

The Health Innovation Technology and Simulation Laboratory (HITS Lab) collaborators at UT work together as nurses, engineers, business leaders, and designers to create products, services and ideas to improve the lives of people and the productivity and success of companies and organizations.

iLab

The Ideation Laboratory, better known as the iLab, is a collaborative studio where students can design, create, and test their ideas in real life. The iLab has various machines and equipment that students can use, including 3D printers, laser engraver, milling machine, and more.

LTS

The Logistics, Transportation, and Supply Chain (LTS) Engineering lab applies operations research, simulation, traffic modeling, statistical analysis, cost/benefit analysis, and other engineering techniques to address issues in logistics, transportation, advanced manufacturing, and supply chain.

Optimization Lab

The Optimization Lab uses large-scale integer programming, stochastic programming, and other hardware and software to conduct research in optimization and simulation for advancing techniques in power systems, health care systems, and other systems. The optimization techniques include

Quantum Algorithm Theory and Discrete Optimization Group

The Quantum Algorithm Theory and Discrete Optimization Group (QAT & DOG) at the University of Tennessee studies fundamental quantum algorithm design and applications of these algorithms to discrete optimization problems.

ARCS

The AI and Robotics for Collaborative Systems (ARCS) Lab works to research, design, and promote the effective collaboration between humans and machines to achieve society’s goals. The ARCS Lab is a human factors lab utilizing concepts from cognitive science, human-computer interaction, and systems engineering to develop and refine intelligent collaborative systems for a variety of applications within manufacturing, healthcare, and defense to improve users’ training quality, information-sharing, processes, and overall collaborative performance.
