Explore Our Research Spaces
facilities and Resources
Department faculty, students, and researchers have access to state-of-the-art instructional spaces and specialized studios for designing, manufacturing, and testing medical devices. Key resources include the University of Tennessee Medical Center, the Advanced Microscopy and Imaging Center, the Center for Precision Health, and the College of Veterinary Medicine, offering hands-on research opportunities and clinical collaboration.
University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC)
As the region’s only academic teaching hospital, UTMC is a hub for biomedical research with clinical trial infrastructure and collaborations across nine core counties.
Advanced Microscopy and Imaging Center (AMIC)
The AMIC is equipped with advanced microscopy tools, including optical, laser scanning, total internal reflection (TIRF), scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM & TEM), and X-ray MicroCT. It provides researchers with technical support, personalized training, and courses on both practical applications and the principles of microscopy.
Center for Precision Health (CPH)
Located at the Orthopaedic Institute and adjacent to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, the CPH is designed to accelerate ideas from concept to clinic. It houses several specialized cores and programs under one roof, including the Medical Device Innovation Core (MeDIC), the Clinical Research Core, Computational Medicine suites, and the Spark Innovation Center’s BioHub incubator for health and wellness start-ups.
UT Institute of Agriculture, College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM)
In conjunction with the veterinary hospital and advanced degree programs, the CVM supports cutting-edge studies in areas such as animal health, translational medicine, and UT One Health initiatives. Key resources include advanced imaging, histopathology, and molecular diagnostics.
