The applied engineering program trains future engineers with the skills and tools necessary to contribute from day one. By gaining hands-on experience with the latest technology and taking courses that build essential professional skills, our graduates are fully equipped to meet the needs of industry both in the state of Tennessee and nationwide.
Our curriculum is dynamic built with feedback industry leaders to ensure our graduates have the skills necessary to meet the current needs of industry. Through strategic partnerships with companies like Garmin, Kairos, and Denso as well as government agencies like Y-12, ORNL, and other national labs, students gain real-world experience through internships, co-ops, and projects. These experiential education opportunities build professional connections that can help launch your career.

Experiential Education
As part of the applied engineering program’s curriculum, our students will work with industry leaders through experiential education opportunities. Students in our program participate in either internships or co-ops where they work with real teams solving real-world problems. This type of practical experiential education opportunity coupled with hands-on learning means our students are ready and prepared to contribute immediately.

Senior Design
As part of their coursework, students participate in a Senior Design project where they collaborate with industry leaders implementing real solutions. As part of the project, companies present student groups with real-world challenges, and the groups create innovative solutions. This partnership ensures that graduates enter the workforce with the skills and knowledge that are in high demand.
Soft Skill Programs
In addition to the practical skills gained through hands-on learning, our students will strengthen professional skills needed in the workplace. Specific coursework in our program is designed to bolster the communication, teamwork, leadership, collaboration, and project management skills of our graduates.
