Get a Head Start with Industry

Senior Design

To further the collaboration process between students and industry leaders, the applied engineering curriculum includes a Senior Capstone project. During this multi-semester project, students will partner with companies to come up with innovative solutions to real-world challenges. The experience includes important lessons in practical knowledge and soft skills like professional communications, ethics, professionalism, intellectual property, export controls, and project management.

At the end of the academic year, students will participate in the Senior Design Showcase, a college-wide event that highlights the incredible work they have put into their project. Project sponsors, potential employers, peers, underclassmen, and faculty attend the event and provide the opportunity for students to present their work.

About the Project

The capstone project spans across two semesters with these courses:

AET 401 – Senior Capstone I

This course connects the science, engineering, and professional education of the chosen concentration with a focus on project design, execution, and reporting of actual problems faced by industry in a team environment.

AET 402 – Senior Capstone II

In this class, students will produce a working prototype or system design that is tested, evaluated, validated, and delivered to the client.
