Biography
John Kobza joined the University of Tennessee as Department Head of Industrial and Systems Engineering in 2013. His research interests include modeling, analyzing and designing systems involving uncertainty and risk, such as security systems, manufacturing systems and communication networks.
From 1999 to 2013 he served on the faculty of the Department of Industrial Engineering at Texas Tech University. His administrative positions during that time included Associate Department Chair, Interim Department Chair and Senior Associate Dean for the Edward E. Whitacre College of Engineering. He served as a Visiting Professor in the Systems Engineering Department at the United States Military Academy, 2005 to 2006. He was an Assistant Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech from 1993 to 1999. From 1984 to 1987 he was a Member of the Technical Staff at GTE Laboratories working on traffic scheduling for integrated communications networks.
He is a member of Sigma Xi, Alpha Pi Mu, INFORMS, IISE, and a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas.
