Biography
Beau G. Schelble is an Assistant Professor of Industrial & Systems Engineering and the Founding Director of the AI & Robotics for Collaborative Systems (ARCS) Lab at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He received his Ph.D. in Human-Centered Computing from Clemson University in 2023.
His research focuses on the human factors of human-AI teaming, investigating how mixed human–AI teams coordinate in complex, high-consequence environments through the study of team cognition, trust, situational awareness, and intelligent information sharing. Dr. Schelble integrates quantitative, qualitative, and computational methods to engineer human-AI teams that are trusted, secure, resilient, and effective across applied domains including advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity, emergency response, healthcare, and defense.
He has published over 45 peer-reviewed articles in leading venues of the ACM, IEEE, HFES, and IISE communities and his research has been funded internally by the University of Tennessee and externally by the Army Research Office. He contributes to the scholarly community as an Associate Editor for the ASME Journal of Autonomous Vehicles and Systems and is frequently invited to speak on human-AI teaming at venues such as the National Academies’ Board on Human-Systems Integration, the University of Texas at Austin, and the United States Military Academy.
