Course Offered: ME 472 — Sustainable Energy Engineering

This course is designed to be an interdisciplinary course and deals with engineering systems to convert, store, transport, and use energy using technologies that reduce dependence on fossil fuels and/or emission of greenhouse gases. It is an approved technical elective in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. It can also be used as a technical elective in most other departments with advisor’s permission. While the course will cover several renewable energy technologies, majority of the time will be devoted to solar (both thermal and photovoltaic), wind energy conversion and energy storage. With about 15% of total energy needs being met by the wind energy (compared to only 3.3% in US), Ireland, has become one of the leaders in wind energy technology. Thus, studying these subjects in Ireland is a unique opportunity to see up-close how the wind energy technology is implemented to meet nation’s energy needs.

Dublin is an ancient city that today is one of the most dynamic and fastest growing European capitals.

Students will share double dormitory apartment accommodations (with kitchen, bathroom, and a living room with TV, Internet) in residence halls in Dublin City University.
