Staff Spotlight: Long Has Answers for the Office or the Garden
Angela Long is an administrative assistant in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. She provides academic support for the faculty, supports graduate school programs, assists students with any situations that may arise, and provides administrative assistance to 20-plus faculty members and more than 450 students.
Long is also a problem solver and can dole out the occasional gardening advice to any that have questions around the office.
“I have an eclectic knowledge base,” said Long. “I have even run my own business, as well as my last employer’s, before coming here. I can prune a tree and learn a new database, which is something not everyone knows.”
Long, a Knoxville native, explained that she loves working for her alma mater. She graduated from UT with a Bachelor of Science in ornamental horticulture and landscape design.
Outside the office, Long loves to read, sew, garden, knit, hike, and travel. She also likes to spend time with her family as well. She has been married almost 27 years this October to her husband, Brad Long, who is also an UT employee of the university.
The Longs also have a son, Matthew Emmett. He will be 18 in September and will be starting at UT in the fall. Long says their cat, Oliver, rules the roost at their family home.
