Proposal Development

The Engineering Research Office assists faculty members to identify and pursue new funding opportunities, and to develop and polish proposals. While we assist all faculty members with these services, we are particularly focused on assisting early-career faculty members and facilitating the development of research plans that seek funding from DoD-related programs and agencies. Please contact Harry Richards for these services:

  • Create strategic funding plans to identify appropriate agencies and programs
  • Brainstorm proposal narratives and target audiences/agencies
  • Develop short communications (quad chart, concept papers, etc.) appropriate for approaching program officers
  • Identify prospective DoD programs that align with faculty research priorities
  • Develop research narratives in terms of a problem statement, desired outcomes, and research significance
  • Revise and polish iterative drafts with respect to narrative clarity and audience interests
  • Review final drafts for clarity and intent

Please be aware that ERO support is in addition to services provided by the university’s Office of Research, Innovation, and Economic Development (ORIED). UT’s ORIED offers proposal writing workshops through the Faculty Development Team, pre-submission proposal management and coordination services through the Research Development Team, access to internal funding opportunities via Pivot, and other proposal development resources.
