TCE Online Graduate Program Among Nation’s “Best”

The Tickle College of Engineering’s online graduate programs rank 33rd in the nation, according to the 2026 U.S. News & World Report (USNWR) rankings, which were released today.

“The Tickle College of Engineering has heavily invested to deliver high-quality online programs such as a Doctor of Engineering degree; MS programs in engineering management, cybersecurity, computer science; and others,” said Matthew Mench, TCE dean and Wayne T. Davis Dean’s Chair. “These programs have been designed specifically for the online experience and are nationally recognized for their excellence. (…) It is great to see (that) the USNWR has reflected the overall excellence of our online programs with a high ranking among our peers.”

Every year, the USNWR Best Online Master’s in Engineering Programs list highlights exceptional online graduate degree programs based on several parameters, including quality engagement with instructors and classmates, the academic caliber of the faculty teaching remote courses, and surveys from officials at highly regarded engineering institutions.

Nearly 1,850 institutions offering online bachelor’s and master’s programs were analyzed for this year’s USNWR Best Online Programs series. Only 116 online master’s programs made the overall “Best” list, where TCE ranked 33rd.

The college ranked even higher among public universities, achieving the rank of 26th out of the 90 public institutions that made the “Best” distinction.

Nearly one million Tennesseans hold college credits but never completed a degree program. The University of Tennessee’s 80 online degree and certificate programs offer students flexibility in completing their degrees or starting new careers.

“Having these (graduate online) programs helps us deliver advanced training to those who are already in the workforce and are seeking to elevate their career path opportunities,” Mench said.
