Philip Rack<\/a>, a professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, was recognized as the recipient of the Collaborative Leadership Award at the inaugural Collaborative Leadership Summit<\/a> on Oct. 31 at the University of Tennessee Student Union.<\/p>\n

The prestigious award honors individuals who promote supportive university and community environments, advance leadership development and professional growth, build strong partnerships across higher education, business, and community sectors, and exhibit creativity and innovation in fostering collaboration and inspiring others.<\/p>\n

Rack received a plaque and a generous stipend sponsored by Ernst & Young.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was truly honored to receive the inaugural Collaborative Leadership Award.\u202f I am a Christian and my leadership style is servant leadership, which is inspired by the life of Jesus,\u201d said Rack, the Leonard G. Penland Chair & Director-Center for Materials Processing and former MSE interim department head. \u201cI have had a rich career at the University of Tennessee, and to be able to serve in leadership roles has been very rewarding and a small way to give back.”<\/p>\n

Rack was nominated for the award by MSE Department Head Mohsen Zaeem<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr. Rack\u2019s collaborative leadership extends beyond administrative service. As an internationally recognized researcher with an H-index of 66 and over 14,000 citations, he continues to advance UT\u2019s research reputation while promoting teamwork and inclusion,\u201d Zaeem said. \u201cHis sustained leadership across multiple units\u2014departmental, college, and institutional\u2014reflects a long-standing commitment to building bridges among academic, governmental, and industrial partners.\u201d<\/p>\n
