{"id":1726,"date":"2025-02-28T09:02:20","date_gmt":"2025-02-28T14:02:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/mse\/?p=1726"},"modified":"2025-07-28T17:01:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-28T21:01:10","slug":"gilmer-receives-two-manufacturing-grants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/mse\/gilmer-receives-two-manufacturing-grants\/","title":{"rendered":"Gilmer Receives Two Manufacturing Grants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Dustin Gilmer, an assistant professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, is collaborating on two projects that received grants from America Makes and the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM).<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The winners are part of a $6.6 million project call funded by the Office of the Secretary of Defense Manufacturing Technology Program (OSD ManTech). The project call, Improvements in Manufacturing Productivity via Additive Capabilities and Techno-Economic Analysis 2.0 (IMPACT 2.0), consisted of two areas of focus and aims to demonstrate lead time, productivity, and yield improvements for casting and forging manufacturing operations using additive manufacturing technologies.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The goal of the project is to further establish data-driven methods for applying the best attributes of novel additive manufacturing metal materials.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Gilmer and his team from the Tickle College of Engineering are contributing to the projects, \u201cRapid Casting Demonstration Challenge\u201d and \u201cDisseminate Leading Practices and Promote the Adoption of 3D-printed Sand Molds\/Cores.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cThe MSE department and I are excited about the growing momentum around casting and forging and how our department and university can contribute to national priorities,\u201d Gilmer said.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading h4 orange-mark\">Contact<\/h2>\n<p>Rhiannon Potkey (865-974-0683,\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:rpotkey@utk.edu\">rpotkey@utk.edu<\/a>)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dustin Gilmer is collaborating on two projects that received grants from America Makes and the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM).\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":1598,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[14,4],"tags":[500,470,501],"class_list":["post-1726","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","category-research","tag-america-makes","tag-dustin-gilmer","tag-national-center-for-defense-manufacturing-and-machining"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
