{"id":1532,"date":"2024-05-23T14:37:09","date_gmt":"2024-05-23T18:37:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/mse\/?p=1532"},"modified":"2024-05-28T14:37:26","modified_gmt":"2024-05-28T18:37:26","slug":"mse-undergraduates-honored-with-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/mse\/mse-undergraduates-honored-with-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Five MSE Undergraduates Honored with Student Engagement Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of the MSE department brought home two trophies from the Student Engagement Awards last month.<\/p>\n<p>Every year, UT\u2019s Center for Student Engagement puts on the ceremony to honor student organizations and leaders who have made significant impacts on the campus community over the past year.<\/p>\n<p>At this year\u2019s ceremony, hosted on April 9, 2024, one MSE student and one MSE organization were so honored.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marlena Alexander Wins Outstanding Executive Board Member Award<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Undergraduate Marlena Alexander was awarded the title of Outstanding Executive Board Member. Alexander serves on the board of UT\u2019s chapter of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/materialadvantage.org\/\">Material Advantage<\/a>, an organization providing career development opportunities, scholarships, and membership to the MSE industry\u2019s major professional societies, including the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ceramics.org\/\">American Ceramic Society<\/a>\u00a0(ACerS) and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.asminternational.org\/\">Materials Information Society<\/a>\u00a0(ASM International).<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the awards ceremony, Alexander was in the Middle East serving as a Senior Airman. She is an Environmental and Electrical Systems Specialist in the 134<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Aerial Refueling Wing of the Tennessee Air National Guard. Fabriana Prawiranata, also an MSE undergraduate, accepted the award on Alexander\u2019s behalf.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MRS Wins Outstanding Academic Student Organization Award<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>UT\u2019s chapter of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mrs.org\/\">Materials Research Society<\/a>\u00a0(MRS), run by Rebecca Lalk, Kim Pestovich, Cole Franz, and Sean Drewry, won the award for Outstanding Academic Student Organization.
