Biography<\/h2>\n

Matthew Cothrine joined the UT faculty in 2025 after completing his PhD in materials science. His dissertation research focused on synthesis and characterization of new electronic and magnetic materials, particularly the growth of low-dimensional magnets to be characterized via ultra-low (sub 1 K) temperature physical property measurements and neutron diffraction. He teaches core materials science courses such as Introduction to Materials Science and the Principles of Materials labs. Before moving to Knoxville he researched piezoelectric materials at the University of Florida and worked at EMC Smith FL RF Labs, a manufacturer of microwave electronic components.<\/p>\n
