The Department of Materials Science and Engineering reached the top 20 among public universities for the first time in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2026 Best Graduate Schools rankings that were released April 7.
MSE ranked an all-time high No. 20 in the public rankings, improving one spot from last year, and remained 35th overall. Tickle College of Engineering as a whole rose to 28th among public universities and 50th overall.
“Reaching the Top 20 for the first time in the history of Materials Science and Engineering marks a significant milestone and underscores the strength of our research enterprise, educational programs, and strategic partnerships,” said MSE Department head Mohsen Asle Zaeem. “This achievement reflects the collective excellence, dedication, and momentum of our faculty, students, staff, and alumni. We are proud of this accomplishment and even more excited about the trajectory ahead.”
