Incoming UT-ORNL Governor’s Chair for Quantum Devices Deep Jariwala has been named a Fellow of the Society by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics.

Jariwala is one of 59 new Fellows who were recognized for their exceptional contributions to optics and photonics through technical achievements, and their substantial service to the optics and photonics community and SPIE. Of the more than 25,000 SPIE members, less than 1,950 have been chosen as a Fellow.

Jariwala is widely recognized for his work at the intersection of novel materials, microelectronics, and computing systems. His research focuses on developing novel materials and “chips of the future” that enable next-generation computing, sensing, and optoelectronic systems that use artificial intelligence.

Jariwala, who will join the University of Tennessee faculty in January, will be acknowledged by SPIE during a symposium of his choice throughout the year.
