Mechanical and aerospace engineering faculty specializing in computational engineering are developing novel tools to model\/design\/analyze some of the most complex engineering problems including fluids, turbulence, aerospace, defense, robotics and control, and manufacturing, to name a few. The use of AI\/ML methods will further advance our understanding as they offer many advantages such as: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--xx-small);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--xx-small)\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--xx-small);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--xx-small)\">Unraveling hidden physics;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--xx-small);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--xx-small)\">Reducing development costs and accelerating timelines;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--xx-small);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--xx-small)\">Testing scenarios too expensive, dangerous, or impractical for traditional testing methods <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--xx-small);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--xx-small)\">Providing rapid and accurate prediction tools as an alternative to expensive high-fidelity computations. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Similar research is also being carried out in medical imaging, robot-assisted care for patients, advanced mobility, and smart manufacturing providing opportunities for multidisciplinary projects and research.
