{"id":414,"date":"2021-05-17T20:47:56","date_gmt":"2021-05-17T20:47:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/ise\/?p=414"},"modified":"2024-12-10T16:37:41","modified_gmt":"2024-12-10T16:37:41","slug":"engineering-students-help-promote-covid-vaccinations-through-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/ise\/engineering-students-help-promote-covid-vaccinations-through-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Engineering Students Help Promote COVID Vaccinations Through Competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s important for physicians, researchers, and engineers in the medical field to work together to provide clear and accurate healthcare information, especially during a pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/volink.utk.edu\/organization\/emed\">Engineers in Medicine (EMED) Society<\/a>\u00a0wanted to do their part to help with health education and communication about COVID-19, so earlier this spring they held a Public Health Communication Competition. They challenged students across UT\u2019s Knoxville campus to create a compelling, accurate, and clear informational flyer on a COVID-19 vaccine. The flyers had to address community concerns and be relevant to the general public, especially those who are hesitant to get a vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>The competition, sponsored by UT\u2019s Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Biomedical Engineering, was judged by a panel of health professionals from the UT Medical Center, Cherokee Health Systems, and former Tickle College of Engineering Dean Wayne Davis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The winners were:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"one-third column \">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"280\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-866\" src=\"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/ise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/05\/Riley-Toll.jpg\" alt=\"Headshot of Riley Toll\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gold Award\u00a0<\/strong>Riley Toll<br \/>\nBiomedical engineering major<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"one-third column \">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"280\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-867\" src=\"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/ise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/05\/Ashley-Chen.jpg\" alt=\"Headshot of Ashley Chen\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Silver Award\u00a0<\/strong>Anna Chen<br \/>\nIndustrial engineering major<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"one-third column \"><\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"280\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-868\" src=\"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/ise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/05\/Katie-Daniels.jpg\" alt=\"Headshot of Katie Daniels\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bronze Award\u00a0<\/strong>Kaitlyn Daniels<br \/>\nIndustrial engineering major<\/p>\n<div class=\"one-third column \"><\/div>\n<p><br class=\"clearshortcode\"><\/p>\n<p>Award winners received a monetary gift and their flyers were distributed to the UT Health Center and Knoxville Health Department.<\/p>\n<p>EMED was founded in 2019 to provide support, resources, and opportunities to students who are interested in pursuing careers in the healthcare field.
