The keynote speakers are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Travis Humble:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:humblets@ornl.gov\">humblets@ornl.gov<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-full wp-image-579 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/ise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2024\/10\/Humble-bio-150x150-1.png\" alt=\"Travis Humble\" \/>Travis Humble is director of the Department of Energy\u2019s Quantum Science Center, a Distinguished Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and director of the lab\u2019s Quantum Computing Institute. Travis leads the development of new quantum technologies and infrastructure to impact the DOE mission of scientific discovery. Travis is also editor-in-chief for ACM Transactions on Quantum Computing and co-chair of the IEEE Quantum Initiative. Travis holds a joint faculty appointment with the University of Tennessee Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Education to work with students in developing energy-efficient computing solutions. Travis received a doctorate in theoretical chemistry from the University of Oregon before joining ORNL in 2005.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Matthias Steffen:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:msteffe@us.ibm.com\">msteffe@us.ibm.com<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr. Steffen is an IBM Fellow and currently leads the Quantum Processor<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-full wp-image-580 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/ise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2024\/10\/Steffen-Matthias-150x150-1.png\" alt=\"Matthias Steffen\" \/>\u00a0Technologies organization at IBM and is responsible for the design, build, and test of large-scale advanced quantum processors on a path to bring quantum advantage and fault tolerant quantum computing to reality. Dr. Steffen received his B.S. degree in physics from Emory University (1998) and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University (2000, 2003). He has worked in the field of quantum computing since 1998 and focused on a variety of approaches towards building a quantum computer. His Ph.D. thesis focused on testing small prototype quantum computers using nuclear spins in liquid solution, while his postdoctoral work and work at IBM centered on advancing superconducting quantum bits. Dr. Steffen came to IBM in 2006 and managed the experimental quantum computing group from 2010 \u20132014 after which he became the Chief Quantum Architect until 2023 when he took over the responsibility of the Quantum Processor Technologies organization. He was appointed as an APS Fellow in 2013 for his contributions to the quantum computing field, and became an IEEE Senior Member in 2015, and elected to become member of the National Academy of Engineering in 2024. He has authored or co-authored over 50 peer review articles in the field of quantum computing and holds numerous patents in the field.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The other speakers that are attending for invited talks are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sarah Chehade:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:chehades@ornl.gov\">chehades@ornl.gov<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-full wp-image-573 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/ise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2024\/10\/chehade-150x150-1.jpg\" alt=\"Sarah Chehade\" \/>Dr. Sarah Chehade is a postdoctoral researcher at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the Quantum Computational Science Group. Prior to her appointment, she obtained her Ph. D. in mathematics from the University of Houston. Her research mainly focuses on mathematical foundations of quantum algorithms using operator algebras, algebraic geometry, and probability theory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tian Li:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:tian-li@utc.edu\">tian-li@utc.edu<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-full wp-image-574 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/ise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2024\/10\/Tian-Li-150x150-1.jpg\" alt=\"Tian Li\" \/>Dr. Tian Li is an Assistant Professor of Physics at the University of\u00a0Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC), specializing in experimental quantum information science. Dr. Li also serves as the CTO of the UTC Quantum Center and is leading quantum networking and communications research in the UTC Quantum Node Lab which provides access to the world\u2019s first software-programmable quantum network \u2013 the EPB Bohr-IV Quantum Network in downtown Chattanooga. Dr. Li\u2019s research is funded by the NSF ExpandQISE and NIST STRS programs, both as Principal Investigator.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Yuan Liu:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/yuanliu.group\/\">http:\/\/yuanliu.group<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-full wp-image-575 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/ise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2024\/10\/Yuan-Liu-2-MB-150x150-1.jpg\" alt=\"Yuan Liu\" \/>Hybrid Oscillator-Qubit Quantum Processors: Instruction Set Architectures, Abstract Machine Models, and Applications<\/li>\n<li>Yuan Liu is an Assistant Professor of Electrical &amp; Computer Engineering and Computer Science at North Carolina State University. He is also an affiliated faculty in Physics. He received his B.S. in physics from Tsinghua University in Beijing. He received his M.S. in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. in chemical physics from Brown University. Prior to joining NC State faculty, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research interests lie at the intersection of quantum information science, theoretical chemistry and physics, and quantum engineering.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jonathan Wurtz<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Yan Wang<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Romina Yalovetzky:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:romina.yalovetzky@jpmorgan.com\">romina.yalovetzky@jpmorgan.com<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-full wp-image-576 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/ise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2024\/10\/romina_yalovetzky_pic-150x150-1.jpg\" alt=\"Romina Yalovetzky\" \/>Romina Yalovetzky is a Vice President Research Lead on\u00a0 Quantum\u00a0Computing at the Global Technology Applied Research team at JPMorganChase. She has been in this role since 2021. Her main focus is the development of quantum algorithms for Finance, particularly for optimization and Machine Learning tasks. Romina has a Master in Physics by the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and prior to her current role, she has worked as a software developer at JPMorganChase, Argentina.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Johanna Zajac (virtual):<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:jzajac@bnl.gov\">jzajac@bnl.gov<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-full wp-image-577 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/ise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2024\/10\/Johanna-Zajac-150x150-1.jpg\" alt=\"Joanna M Zajac\" \/>Joanna M Zajac is a scientist specializing in condensed matter physics and\u00a0quantum technologies. She worked on III-V semiconductors where she studied exciton-polariton quantum fluids and their applications to optoelectronics and fundamental science during her PhD. Afterwards, Joanna worked on quantum dot single photon emitters for applications in Quantum Technologies during her Postdoc appointment. More recently, she contributed to the development of quantum memories based on defect centers in diamond during her work at Oxford University. Joanna also spent 3 years working in industry.\u00a0Joanna joined Brookhaven National Laboratory in 2022 as a Staff Scientist. She was\u00a0recently awarded Department of Energy Early Career Award for her research on interfaces between flying and stationary qubits and their applications for Quantum Networks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>David Esteban Bernal Neira:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:dbernaln@purdue.edu\">dbernaln@purdue.edu<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-578\" src=\"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/ise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2024\/10\/211001A-ChemE-BERNAL-SM-119-Copy-150x150-1.jpg\" alt=\"David Esteban Bernal Neira\" \/>David E. Bernal Neira is an Assistant Professor at the Davidson School of\u00a0Chemical Engineering at Purdue University. He specializes in applying mathematical and computer science tools to address problems relevant to science and engineering, for example, physics and chemical, process, and energy systems engineering. In particular, he works in nonlinear discrete optimization, where, besides applications, he has been working in theory, algorithms, and software. He has been involved in research and teaching related to these topics for over a decade, complemented with research in Quantum Computing. He has co-authored several papers in indexed journals, a few software packages for optimization and quantum computing, given several presentations and seminars in the United States of America and internationally, taught different classes,\u00a0including one on the intersection of optimization, quantum computing, and machine learning (which he co-designed), and have had the pleasure of collaborating with many different researchers in academia, national laboratories, government agencies, and industry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/ise\/southeast-quantum-workshop\/\">Back to Southeast Quantum Workshop.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We\u2019ve invited several industry experts to speak at the Southeast Quantum Workshop.
