SEA Counselor Application

We are seeking undergraduate students to apply to be counselors for Summer Engineering Advancement (SEA). SEA is a 3-week program that will will take place May 31-June 21, 2024, providing pre-calculus ready students majoring in engineering an opportunity to advance to calculus beginning in the fall.

Participants will have opportunities to prepare for the collegiate environment as they develop academic, study, and personal skills while also engaging in career exploration. This summer experience will offer introductory courses in accelerated pre-calculus, Introduction to Engineering Fundamentals, as well as College Life Workshops/Presentations.  

Counselor Requirements

  • Be a rising sophomore, junior, or senior with cumulative GPA of 2.75/4.0 or higher in engineering and have completed Calculus I (MATH 141) and Engineering Fundamentals (EF 151).
  • Attend/monitor all sessions with participants including weekends.
  • Be on time and courteous to all participants, other counselors, and office personnel.
  • During June, counselors are permitted to enroll in classes but no more than 3 hours.

Counselor Application Checklist

  • Please provide the names and email addresses of two (2) individuals who can provide insight into your character, work ethic, and/or experience working with students. Our office will contact your references and provide a form for them to complete. 
  • Applicants are encouraged to seek recommendations from individuals outside of the Dwight Hutchins Engineering Diversity Programs. No written letters of recommendation will be accepted. 

Part 4: Upload Your Resume

  • You will need to upload a pdf version of your resume to be considered for the counselor position.

Part 5: Provide a Link to Your Introduction Video (YouTube, URL address, etc.)

  • Your introduction video makes it easy for us to quickly get a sense of your personality and motivation to serve as a pre-college counselor. It is meant to show us who you are…so relax, be yourself, and get creative! There is no time limit or format for your introduction video.
  • Prompt: Reflecting back to you first year of college, what advice would you give yourself? Comment on any special qualifications or experiences that you believe will make you a successful counselor.

  • Counselor Individual Interviews: March 4-8, 2024
  • Counselor Training: May 28-30, 2024
  • SEA Summer Program:  May 31-June 21, 2024
