Griffin’s Contributions Acknowledged with Beacon of Light Award

Travis Griffin, Fred D. Brown Jr. Director in TCE’s Office of Diversity Programs, received the Dr. Tanisha L. Jenkins Beacon of Light Award at the 2021 Multicultural Student Life Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, April 22.

“I am humbled and thankful for this recognition,” said Griffin. “I extend special thanks to Multicultural Student Life for building collaborations with TCE, it past support of faculty/staff, and service to our students.”

The award recognizes a faculty or staff member who has made outstanding contributions to diversity and multiculturalism at UT.

“Congratulations, Travis. Well deserved,” commented Jalonda N. Thompson, assistant director of TCE diversity programs. “We look forward to seeing what great things you do to further lead diversity efforts in the college.”

Jenkins had a major impact on students at UT with her contributions to diversity and multiculturalism, and was honored in 2015 by a student group with the inaugural Dr. Tanisha L. Jenkins Beacon of Light Award.

The Multicultural Student Life Graduation and Recognition Ceremony is an annual opportunity to celebrate an honor UT’s diverse graduating class before official commencement ceremonies occur. The event also honors our first-year students, sophomores, and juniors to celebrate their roles in Multicultural Student Life organizations and excellence in academics in leadership.
