Professor Paul Frymier has been selected as the associate dean for faculty affairs for the Tickle College of Engineering, having served as an interim in that role since July 9.

Frymier, whose appointment is in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, has more than two decades of experience in the college, having won several department-, college-, and university-level awards for teaching and research.

“We are sincerely pleased to have Paul taking on the associate dean’s position in a more permanent basis,” said interim dean Mark Dean. “He has a knowledge of the college and its faculty and staff, is well respected, and will serve well in this role.”

Frymier recently served on both the college’s Graduate and Undergraduate Advisory Committees for Diversity and is a charter member of the Office of the Provost’s STRIDE@UT Committee.

He also served as chair of the college’s Promotion and Tenure Committee for the 2017–2018 year and as a member of UT’s Undergraduate Council and Academic Policy Subcommittee.

Frymier has led or been a part of 28 externally funded research projects, presented at more than 35 conferences, given 17 invited presentations, and published more than three dozen refereed journal publications.

“I’m happy to be able to continue in this role and to help the college in any way I can,” said Frymier. “We have a lot of good momentum building in the Tickle College of Engineering, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

He completed his bachelors and masters in aerospace engineering at North Carolina State University, and received his PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Virginia. He is a member of Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Chemical Society, and the American Society for Engineering Education.
