The grant includes $10,000 in funding to assist them in advancing new technologies that are on the path to market and benefit society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rucker received the grant for his project, \u201cModular Soft Robot Grippers Using Concentric Precurved Bellows,\u201d in which he is developing technology to make soft robots bend and move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The grant funds will allow Rucker and his PhD student Jake Childs to prototype and conduct experiments that assess the technology\u2019s suitability for various applications, as well as enable them to fabricate bench-top tested robots to showcase to potential industrial partners. They will also explore different manufacturing methods such as electroforming that can miniaturize the technology down to scales appropriate for minimally invasive surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"240\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/tickle.utk.edu\/bme\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/07\/2018-P06306-240x300-1.jpg\" alt=\"Headshot of Ryan Ginder\" class=\"wp-image-453\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ginder received the grant for his project, \u201cRecycling of Wind Turbine Blades into Nonwoven Composites for Fuel Cells,\u201d and will use the funds to demonstrate nonwoven composites molded from recycled glass fiber mats with relevant additives, test and optimize nonwoven composites for mechanical and conductivity performance, and mold and validate the fuel cell composite bipolar plates in test operation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MABE researchers Caleb Rucker and Ryan Ginder earned UT Technology Maturation Grants to advance soft robotics and recycled composites for real-world applications.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[56,90,88],"class_list":["post-451","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized","tag-caleb-rucker","tag-ryan-ginder","tag-ut-technology-maturation-grants"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.0 -
