As part of biomedical engineering curriculum, all BME students participate in a two-course sequence their senior year where they go beyond the classroom. As part of the course, they build, design, and deliver a solution for a real-world problem provided by industry and academic partners. As the capstone experience for our undergraduate curriculum, senior design brings together everything students have learned and challenges them to solve real engineering problems for real clients.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

What is Senior Design?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Senior design is a two-semester course sequence required for all biomedical engineering majors. Students work in teams to design, prototype, and test a solution to a problem they have been presented by one of the college’s academic, research, or industry partners. As each project is sponsored, our students have the opportunity to apply engineering theory to meaningful, hands-on work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students benefit from the opportunity to work on realistic problems characterized by real-world constraints. To successfully complete the projects, they develop and demonstrate soft skills such as individual accountability, cooperation, communication, conflict resolution, and leadership.
