SACSOC Accreditation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Since 1897, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has been continuously accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, master\u2019s, education specialist, and doctoral degrees. The Biomedical Engineering undergraduate degree program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission(s) of ABET<\/a>, under the General Criteria and the Mechanical Engineering Program Criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mission Statement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The mission of the Department of Biomedical Engineering is to improve human health and well-being by deepening the knowledge base through advanced research, providing engineering solutions to healthcare challenges, training the next generation of biomedical engineers, and cultivating future leaders in biomedical science and engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our undergraduate curriculum is designed to prepare graduates to achieve the following objectives within 3\u20135 years after graduation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Establish successful careers in biomedical engineering or related fields by providing engineering solutions to healthcare challenges.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Pursue professional development through graduate education, certifications, or continued training to stay at the forefront of biomedical innovation, regulatory standards, and emerging technologies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Demonstrate leadership and service by contributing meaningfully to their organizations, communities, and society.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    1. An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    5. An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    6. An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
