Our program blends engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience in biology, medicine, and technology to prepare students to tackle real-world healthcare challenges. From developing cutting-edge medical devices to advancing biomaterials and diagnostics, our students gain the skills to address some of the most pressing challenges in human health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With access to expert faculty and world-class research facilities, strong industry ties, and key partnerships with local organizations like Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the UT Medical Center, you&#8217;ll graduate ready to lead in industry, research, or medicine\u2014and shape the future of biomedical innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The mission of the Department of Biomedical Engineering is to improve human health and wellbeing by deepening the knowledge base through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--xx-small);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--xx-small)\">Advanced research;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--xx-small);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--xx-small)\">Providing engineering solutions to healthcare challenges;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--xx-small);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--xx-small)\">Training the next generation of biomedical engineers; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--xx-small);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--xx-small)\">And cultivating future leaders in biomedical science and engineering.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Vision<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The vision of this new department is to become an internationally recognized leader in biomedical engineering research and education through strategic growth.
