Paul Frymier, associate dean for faculty affairs and engagement, was recognized as the 2021 Outstanding Campus Representative by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).

ASEE Campus Representatives are designated by their institution to serve as the liaison between ASEE Headquarters and faculty and students on campus. They play a crucial role in recruiting new ASEE members and in keeping current and potential members informed of ASEE activities. The announcement from ASEE cited Frymier for maintaining an active campus presence in soliciting membership from new faculty, communicating with faculty and administrators about ASEE, and coordinating workshops on pedagogical topics.

Frymier acknowledged the team effort involved in ASEE participation, calling this an award for the college as a whole.

“While I am officially the faculty liaison to ASEE for the college, this award is really the work of the dean for providing the funding for the memberships and Alex Brown and Linda Watson in the dean’s office,” he said. “Alex is tireless in soliciting applications as part of our new faculty on-boarding process and deploys a ‘charm offensive’ each year to make sure our new faculty all have the opportunity to join. Linda and Alex work together with ASEE to see that the invoice is correct and paid in a timely fashion.”

Dean Emeritus Wayne Davis originated the college’s initiative to leverage the ASEE’s Dean’s Program, which pays a second year of ASEE membership if the college pays for the first year.

“Dean Davis took this a step further and provided membership in ASEE for the college faculty after the second year, as well as membership in one of the disciplinary specialty divisions,” said Frymier. “This has been continued under every dean since. It is a great benefit and gives our faculty access to a number of resources, but the one of which our faculty are most aware is First Bell, the daily ASEE email digest.”
